Arista Networks Expands Modular Switching Portfolio With Introduction of the Arista 7500 4-Slot Data Center Switch

Santa Clara, CA, January 18, 2011 - Arista Networks, Inc., the pioneer of next-generation data center switching for cloud networking, today announced the Arista 7500 4-slot modular data center switch, continuing to increase the performance, reliability, and scalability of the data center network. Consolidation of storage and virtualization of servers has created demand for a new class of modular device for space and power constrained environments.

The Arista 7500 4-slot chassis has 5 terabits per second of switching capacity and up to 192 wirespeed L2/L3 10GbE ports in only seven rack-units. The Arista 7500 4-slot chassis builds off of the success of the award-winning Arista 7500 8-slot chassis introduced in April 2010. The Arista 7500 4-slot chassis is purpose-built to alleviate capacity demand in the spine layer of cloud networks.

"With the Arista 7500 4-slot chassis we expand the portfolio of 10GbE data center switching products delivering unmatched performance and density,” stated Andy Bechtolsheim, chairman and chief development officer of Arista Networks. “The introduction of the 4-slot chassis makes modular platforms more approachable and meets the density requirements of our carrier and large enterprise customers.”

The Arista 7500 4-slot chassis leverages the same 48-port 10GbE Ethernet line cards, supervisor engines and power supplies across the entire Arista 7500 product line and also runs the same binary Arista Extensible Operating System (EOS) image across the entire Arista 7000 Family of switches. EOS 4.6 supports the entire Arista 7000 Family from a single image delivering new features such as 32-port Multi-Chassis Link Aggregation, significant BGP and OSPF enhancements, and support for DWDM optics for metro and carrier deployments.

Measuring seven rack units in height (12.25 inches, 31.15 cm), the Arista 7500 4-slot chassis brings new levels of port density and performance to space-challenged provider and data center applications, supporting over 1,100 10GbE interfaces in a standard seven-foot (2.13m) rack with a full suite of L2 switching and L3 routing features. Arista Networks forwarding and control-plane technology provides wirespeed performance forwarding across all interfaces, even when deploying value-added services such as multicast, Data Center Bridging, and 802.1q based VLAN segmentation.

Pricing and Availability

Shipping today for production use, the manufacturer’s base pricing for the Arista 7500 4-slot data center switch starts at $99,995.
