Proliferation of cloud architectures and principles are transforming the traditional routing landscape. New business models around Service Provider NFV, Cloud WAN, Content Edge and data center interconnect (DCI) are disrupting the traditional approaches to networking.

Arista's Routing solution applies the cloud networking principles of "scale-out, simplify, software-driven networking" beyond the data center to routing use-cases. These solutions are based on Arista’s 7280R Universal Leaf and 7500R Universal Spine platforms, powered by Arista EOS® and CloudVision®. Customers can leverage these platforms for roles that require high performance Routing, combined with high port density and deep buffers, integrated DWDM with wirespeed MACSec encryption and cloud automation, which traditional Routers are unable to offer. With the Arista FlexRoute™ engine in Arista's R-series portfolio, customers can now architect, transform and modernize their Routing layer for different applications. Additionally, with the advanced telemetry solutions along with security at scale, delivered with Arista AlgoMatch, customers can avail highest visibility and security for their networks.

Arista R-Series Portfolio

Network Routers

Key Highlights of Arista's Routing solutions:

  • Support for up to 2M+ Routes in hardware, with Arista FlexRoute engine and EOS NetDBTM on R-series platforms, with best-in-class Route convergence
  • Innovations with Arista AlgoMatch include accelerated sFlow, at high density 100G, 5X-10X ACL scale over standard silicon with uncompromised scale for IPv6
  • Support for various tunneling technologies including VXLAN, MPLS, GRE, MPLSoGRE and programmable traffic steering
  • Support for MPLS - LDP, ISIS Segment Routing and BGP Labeled Unicast (BGP LU)
  • Support for various Network Virtualization solutions such as BGP EVPN
  • EOS NetDB provides real-time state streaming and analytics for live monitoring and historic forensic troubleshooting

The goal of Network Virtualization as an overlay network is the decoupling of the physical topology from the logical topology, to allow connectivity between compute (virtual or physical) and network services (virtual or physical) regardless of where they may reside within the datacenter. This approach delivers an optimal level of flexibility and mobility, so that compute nodes can now be dynamically placed anywhere in the datacenter, removing the traditional L2/L3 boundaries of the physical infrastructure.

The foundation for Arista's Network Virtualization solutions is VXLAN, an open IETF specification designed to standardize an overlay encapsulation protocol. Arista solutions range from OVSDB and Openstack integration to BGP EVPN in conjunction with EOS CloudVision®, a platform for network-wide workload orchestration and workflow automation.

Network Virtualization - VXLAN

Key highlights of the solution include:

  • Support for IP based Underlay architectures and VXLAN, across broad product portfolio
  • Open Control Network (OCN) approach to deliver standards based control plane choices for VXLAN, including BGP EVPN, Multicast or Head End Replication (HER)
  • Layer-2 and Layer-3 extension over IP Fabric, to deliver segmentation, multi tenancy, topology independent workload placement for hybrid cloud deployments
  • VXLAN+MLAG - Provides an active-active, fully redundant, highly available solution for VTEPs
  • VXLAN aware VMtracer for network telemetry across virtual and physical networks
  • EOS CloudVision:
    • Provides controller agnostic support for network-wide virtual and physical workload orchestration using open APIs such as OVSDB, JSON and OpenStack plugins
    • Offers a single point of integration for third party controllers such as VMware NSX, Nuage VSP and Microsoft Windows Server
    • Enables plug and play control plane deployments
