Configuring L1 Module Profiles
Configure an L1 module profile on any module in the System L1 Configuration Mode. Use the following command to enter the configuration mode:
switch(config)# system l1
switch(config-system-l1)# module module_name profile module_profile
Use the module_name Linecard for modular systems, and on fixed systems, use switch, and then apply the built-in profile name.
Examples
Configure the built-in profile, Uniform-4x100g-2-R, on a modular system with Linecard3, Linecard4, and Linecard6:
switch(config)# system l1
switch(config-system-l1)# module Linecard3-4,6 profile Uniform-4x100G2-R
Configure the built-in profile, Uniform-4x100g-2-R, on a fixed system:
switch(config)# system l1
switch(config-system-l1)# module switch profile Uniform-4x100G2-R
To configure a SKU-based L1 profile and set an L1 profile for all linecards on a given model, use the following commands:
switch(config)# system l1
switch(config-system-l1)# card-model sku_name profile sku_profile
- sku_name - Name of the SKU to apply the profile
- sku_profile - Name of the L1 profile to apply to all linecards on the switch
For example, a DCS-7388-8D with linecards can have a SKU-based L1 Profile or a module-based L1 Profile uses the following configuration:
switch(config)# system l1
switch(config-system-l1)# module linecard3 profile Uniform-4x100G-2-R
switch(config-system-l1)# card-model 7388-8D profile Uniform-1x400G-8
switch(config-system-l1)# show l1 modules profile status
* Indicates that the configured profile definition has changed
Module Operational Configured Status
--------- ------------------ ------------------ ------------
linecard3 n/a Uniform-4x100G-2-R pending
linecard4 n/a Uniform-1x400G-8 pending
linecard5 n/a Uniform-1x400G-8 pending
At this stage, the profiles have configurations but not operational. To enable the profile, perform one of the following steps depending on the platform:
For a fixed system, reboot the switch.
For a Linecard system, perform the following:
- Reboot the switch.
- Reinsert the linecard physically.
- Or reinsert the linecards as a simulation.
To simulate reinserting the linecards, use the following commands:
switch# platform module module_name remove
switch# platform module module_name insert
Displaying L1 Module Profile Application Status
Use the show l1 modules profile status to display the status.
On a modular system, the command returns the following output:
switch# show l1 modules profiles status
* Indicates that the configured profile definition has changed
Module Operational Configured Status
--------- ------------------ ------------------ ------------
linecard3 Uniform-4x100G-2-R Uniform-4x100G-2-R applied
linecard4 n/a Uniform-4x100G-2-R not inserted
linecard5 n/a Uniform-4x10G-1 pending
linecard6 n/a Uniform-4x10G-1 error
linecard7 n/a n/a applied
On a fixed system, the command returns the following output:
switch# show l1 modules profiles status
* Indicates that the configured profile definition has changed
Module Operational Configured Status
------ ------------------ ------------------ -------
switch Uniform-4x100G-2-R Uniform-4x100G-2-R applied
The Status column has one of the following entries:
- applied - Operational and configured profiles match. No action needed.
- not inserted - Module not inserted and nothing to configure.
- pending - Requires a card reinsertion or switch powercycle before module becomes operational. Reboot the switch or simulate reinserting the cards.
- error - Configured profile on an unsupported module. Double-check the platform compatibility list.
Displaying L1 Module Profiles on a Switch
To display all available L1 profiles on a switch, use the following command:
switch# show l1 modules profile configuration
Name Source Applicable Summary
Modules
------------------ ------- ----------- ---------------------------------------------------
Uniform-4x100G-2-R builtin linecard3,5 A profile which configures all 36 ports to 4x100G-2
Uniform-4x10G-1 builtin linecard3,5 A profile which configures all 36 ports to 4x10G-1
A fixed system displays switch in the Application Modules field. On a modular system, if the
Application Modules does not display any information, then an available profile cannot be applied to any currently inserted modules.
To find certain 1 module profiles on a switch, use the following command:
switch# how l1 modules profile configuration name 100g-2
Name Source Applicable Summary
Modules
------------------ ------- ----------- ---------------------------------------------------
Uniform-4x100G-2-R builtin linecard3,5 A profile which configures all 36 ports to 4x100G-2
