Connecting the Edge Appliance to the Network

Connect one end of the Ethernet cable into the ISP modem and the other end into the Edge appliance's GE3, GE4, GE5, GE6, or SFP+ ports to connect to the Internet. The green LED beside each port indicates that the Edge appliance is connected to the Internet. Use the Ethernet cable provided in the package contents to connect the ISP modem to the Edge appliance.

The following table describes the port number for each appliance where you can connect the Ethernet cable to Internet:

Note:

Port for Internet Connectivity: Do not plug the cable into the GE1 or GE2 port for Internet connectivity, as these ports are reserved for local LAN connectivity (LAN connectivity to local devices such as computers or printers) or HA connectivity.

Class 1 Laser Product:

This product is designed to install Class 1 laser transceivers, which provide essential optical coupling to the communication network. After you install a Class 1 laser transceiver, your equipment will be classified as a Class 1 Laser Product (Appareil à Laser de Classe 1). You must perform the following tasks:
  • Select and install the appropriate Class 1 laser transceiver.
  • After installation, ensure that the Allowable Emission Limit (Class 1 AEL) adheres to the standards set forth by EN/IEC 60825, CSA E60825-1, and the Code of Federal Regulations 21 CFR 1040.
  • Install laser products rated higher than Class 1.
  • Adhere to all safety instructions that accompanied the transceiver prior to installation.
  • Select only Class 1 laser devices that have been certified by the relevant authority in your country.

Follow the instructions received in the email to activate your Edge appliance.

Activating Edge Appliance Using Edge Auto-Activation

Power the Edge appliance and connect it to the Internet to initiate the auto-activation. Edge Auto-activation (Zero Touch Provisioning) simplifies the appliance's activation process by automating the process and eliminating multiple communications with the Support team.

Before you begin the activation process, you need a valid Subscription Identifier (SID) that you received while booking your order with Arista Networks. If you don't have a valid SID, contact Arista Support.

  1. Open the email received from VeloCloud.
  2. Connect the Edge appliance to the power supply and Internet, if you have not already done so.
  3. For Edge 710 and 710-5G appliances:
    1. Find and connect to the Wi-Fi network that looks like 'velocloud-xxx' (example, velocloud-01c). Use 'vcsecret' as the password for the Wi-Fi network.
    2. Select the link in the Email to activate your Edge appliance.
  4. For Edge 720 and 740 appliances:
    1. Instead of joining the Wi-Fi network, connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the GE1 or GE2 port in the appliance and the other end to a laptop or computer.
    2. Open a browser on your laptop or computer and open the activation URL.
