Arista Enables Automated Cloud Networking with Advanced Event Management Capabilities

SANTA CLARA, Calif. — January 31, 2012 Arista Networks, Inc. today announced Advanced Event Management (AEM), a suite of new capabilities in Arista's Extensible Operating System, the world's most advanced network operating system, that enables increased and unprecedented levels of network automation while improving overall system uptime.

AEM is a powerful and flexible tool that automates tasks and customizes the behavior of EOS and the operation of the switching infrastructure. AEM allows operators to fully utilize the intelligence within EOS to respond to real-time events, automate routine tasks, and take local automated action based on changing network conditions. These services allow engineers, operators, and partners to take advantage of the functions inherent in EOS and AEM to use the Arista hardware in customizable ways that work intimately with each customer’s unique operating environment.

"Our partners and customers appreciate Arista EOS as the most open cloud network operating system available with customizable features," stated Ken Duda, senior vice president and Chief Technology Officer at Arista Networks. "With AEM, we activate a broad set of triggers to call any customized script so your network reacts consistently and automatically to sensed changes in the environment based on a consistent set of policies.”

AEM is purpose-built to enable distributed systems automation, to simplify complex tasks, react programmatically to network changes, and simplify troubleshooting tasks. An example is automatically backing up all configuration changes to a central Zero Touch Provisioning (ZTP) server via HTTP. Any future replacement of the switch is then automatically configured using the last known good configuration via ZTP, requiring no human intervention. This greatly simplifies managing large and complex networks.

“Until now, Network automation has been limited by command line interpreters and often a lack of vendor commitment to open standards and flexible programming languages,” said Zeus Kerravala, principal analyst at ZK Research. “Arista’s focus on a modern software-defined network operating system, that is customizable, with built-in automation capabilities is a welcome change for the cloud-era.”

Availability

The applications and use cases for AEM are almost limitless. There are many examples on EOS Central. AEM will be available in March 2012 as part of Arista EOS version 4.9.
