Application based routing has previously been restricted to use only the IP header fields to classify a flow into a user defined application. A deep packet inspection module is now available and extends application identification for traffic destined for the WAN network.

This feature is used to connect a Layer 3 EVPN VXLAN network to an Adaptive Virtual Topology (AVT) WAN network using dynamic path selection (DPS) tunnels. One or a pair of WAN routers are configured to serve as the VXLAN gateway. On the control plane, the configured VXLAN gateway handles EVPN IP-PREFIX route exchanges between the VXLAN network and the WAN network. On the data plane, the configured VXLAN gateway decapsulates the VXLAN packets received from the VXLAN network and encapsulates them into the DPS tunnels and sends them to the AVT WAN network.

The ICMP protocol has a type of messages used to handle problematic situations in a network, like for example destination unreachable, packet's Time To Live exceeded, and others. They all contain the "original datagram" field which represents the leading octets of the datagram to which the ICMP message is a response. The original datagram consists of the IP header + at least 64 bits of the data.

WAN Routing system network comprises multiple routers interconnected using Dynamic Path Selection (DPS) tunnels. Prior to EOS-4.34.2F, the High Availability solution used a static hash to assign flow ownership to an HA peer. This peer was then responsible for Deep Packet Inspection (DPI) and subsequent Advanced Virtualization Technology (AVT) selection based on the DPI results.
