The Arista 7130 hardware delivers enterprise-grade reliability and performance and implements use cases that are difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional network switches. As programmable platforms, the different 7130 devices provide a variety of features to address different use cases.

The Arista 7130 series encompasses a wide range of high-performance hardware including:

  • Layer 1+ switching chips with port-to-port latencies as low as 4 nanoseconds.
  • Programmable FPGA devices which support the Arista development standards -- EH and LB.
  • High performance switching silicon options
    • Deep buffer, full featured Broadcom Jericho2
    • P4 Programmable Intel Tofino
  • Stable oscillators for precision timing, including OCXO and Rubidium.
  • x86 CPU running EOS -- Arista's enterprise-grade network operating system.

7130 Connect Series
  • 7130 Connect Series devices implement a Layer 1+ switch, host a quad-core x86 management platform and RAM. The devices are widely deployed for low-latency market data replication, reliable, cost-effective tapping, test lab automation and remote data center patch automation. Layer 1+ switches implement a rich set of operational functionality, deeply integrated with the operating system, including counters, LLDP, tcpdump, optical transceiver management and monitoring, and streaming telemetry.

7130 Connect Series
  • 7130B Series devices provide a high density Layer 1+ switch, offering up to 256 front panel connections. To reduce cabling and maintain a compact form factor, each of the 32 x QSFP-DD ports carry up to 8 x 10/25G connections. The system hosts an Intel Tofino P4 programmable switch chip which enables a full switching feature set on any port. In addition to standard L2 and L3 features, the integrated switch chip offers a choice of forwarding profiles in common with the 7170 Series, as well as the possibility to deploy fully customized pipelines. The switch also provides a complete set of counters and streaming telemetry for both switched and pure Layer 1 paths. The high radix 7130B enables customers to collapse multiple tiers of lower density Layer 1 devices to scale-out applications such as low-latency market data replication, centralized tapping, test lab automation, and remote data center patch automation.

The Arista 7130 Series introduces a range of fully composable devices, providing a complete set of Layer 1 features and adding one or more programmable FPGA resources and optional full featured switching silicon.

Programmable FPGA resources can be used by Arista applications, 3rd party applications, or for custom development. These FPGA applications can perform functions in much the same way as custom silicon.

The 7130 FPGA devices support different board standards -- LB, EH Central or EH Leaf. These standards define the FPGA arrangement and peripherals, and determine which network applications can run on a particular device. The Arista 7130 offers two series of FPGA-enabled devices:

7130 Connect Series
  • 7130LB Series devices are optimized for 10G applications and host a Layer 1+ switch, a Xilinx FPGA, 32G of FPGA RAM, a precision OCXO oscillator, a quad-core x86 CPU for management and applications, with 8G CPU RAM, as well as a two-port 10G NIC. There are options for 48 or 96 ports, though the FPGA connectivity is limited to a minimum of 58 ports (60 on the 48-port variant).

  • 7130LB Series supports the LB development standard and compatible applications. The LB features a larger FPGA with a faster speed grade for minimizing latency. Key use cases include precision, lossless, tap/aggregation and low latency switching.

7130 Connect Series
  • Arista 7130E Series devices contain up to three high-performance Xilinx FPGAs, in a single system, with dense serial and parallel interconnects giving the lowest-latency FPGA-FPGA communication possible. The integrated Layer 1+ switch allows for each FPGA to receive a copy of any stream, and for inter-FPGA connectivity to be tapped and timestamped. Arista 7130E Series devices have 48 front-panel ports running at 10G, a TCXO oscillator, a quad-core x86 CPU, and 8G CPU RAM.

  • Arista 7130E Series devices are purpose built to host applications with dense FPGA requirements implemented for the EH Central and EH Leaf development standard. Typical applications include trading algorithms, where parts of the algorithm such as pre-trade checks are implemented in one FPGA, and parts of the algorithm e.g. the trading algorithm, are implemented in another FPGA. The 7130E Series does not implement any FPGA RAM, in favor of fitting more FPGAs.

7130LBR Series
  • Arista 7130LBR Series devices are fully composable, single device solutions hosting a combination of Layer 1 switching, dual LB standard FPGAs, a high specification switching chip from the 7280R3 family, and an eight-core x86 control plane. The 7130LBR can be used to consolidate the duties of multiple separate devices, eliminating cabling and inter-device latency, while enabling local offload of functions between the key forwarding components. Complex applications such as pre-trade risk checks and smart order routing can be split across the 7130LBR’s multiple FPGAs to minimize latency and maximize available hardware logic. An all-in-one trading and monitoring solution can be realized by combining MetaWatch’s picosecond-level timetamping with a custom trading application on a single box. The 7130LBR’s unique architecture is well suited to a variety of high performance in-network applications.

7132LB Series
  • 7132LB Series introduces the cut-through L2/L3 switch at 25G speed for ultra-low latency applications. It offers a Xilinx FPGA based programmable platform with LB board standard and has the ability to run Arista’s advanced applications such as L2/L3 switching app, high precision timestamping and filtering or custom developed applications using Arista’s rich Firmware Development Kit (FDK). With a form factor with 48 SFP 28 ports and 4 QSFP28 ports, the platform supports 25G and 100G ultra-low latency applications.

The Arista 7132LB series can run in 10G mode or 25G mode depending on the profile with deterministic latency. The device provides up to 36 ports of L2/L3 switching with a latency of 150ns for L3 profile and 133ns for L2 profile at 25G.

The platform enables the customers to upgrade and deploy critical applications at 25G with no impact to latency on existing applications.

7135 Series
  • 7135LB Series devices provide Layer 1 connectivity integrated to Xilinx FPGA based programmable platform, both optimized for 25G speed for the trading networks. Packed in a dense form factor of 48 SFP 28 ports and 4 QSFP28 ports, the platform provides seamless connectivity and the ability to scale huge deployments without having an impact on the latency.

7135LB Series supports the LB development standard, making it easier for the existing applications running at 10G to migrate at 25G speed. The FPGA can be used to run Arista provided applications such as high precision timestamping and low latency multiplexing as well as custom built applications.

Operating Systems

Latest generation Arista 7130 Series platforms natively run Arista EOS (Extensible Operating System), common to all switching and routing platforms.

EOS - Extensible Operating System & CloudVision

EOS is a fully programmable, highly modular, Linux-based OS, using an industry standard CLI and running a single binary software image across the Arista switching family. Architected for resiliency and programmability, EOS has a unique multi-process state sharing architecture that separates state information and packet forwarding from protocol processing and application logic.

Arista CloudVision provides a network-wide approach for workload orchestration, workflow automation and real-time telemetry enabling companies to manage the network with much fewer human resources. Rapid integration with a wide range of third-party applications for virtualization, management, automation and orchestration services are equally available.
