RDMA over converged ethernet version 2 (RoCEv2) is a UDP protocol for transferring memory blocks between compute nodes. It is used for AI applications. RoCEv2 aware sampled flow tracking with IPFIX export is an enhancement that allows customers access to RoCEv2 flow information, for the purposes of analyzing and monitoring traffic associated with AI workloads.

Sampled flow tracking with IPFIX export is supported on most of the Arista platforms. User configured sampling rate is used for sampling in ingress and/or egress direction on the configured interfaces. An EOS software agent on CPU processes samples received from hardware, samples are used to create flow records that are exported to IPFIX collectors. Refer to Sampled flow tracking TOI for additional details.

This feature gives users the ability to use Route Control Functions (RCFs) to create custom policies for deciding which routes with IP next-hops should be programmed into the kernel with fwd* next-hop devices so the associated kernel packets are inserted into the ingress pipeline of hardware forwarding instead of being software-forwarded by the kernel.
