Many networks today rely heavily on delivering multicast throughout the topology, especially for video/audio flow distribution in a broadcast network. Multicast is required in these systems to avoid maintaining multiple connections for the same stream of data with every endpoint. This is achieved via multiple flow replications and finding shared and shortest paths from senders to receivers.
Given that customers’ valuable content and data is being distributed as multicast, it is vital to understand the mechanics of how a stream of data reaches the receiver from its corresponding sender. This enables a user to better troubleshoot routing issues in a live environment.
