European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts selects Fujin Systems to deploy UK's first Arista 7500 series switch

Centre reduces latency and power consumption with improved performance and upgradability

Theale, Berkshire, UK, 12th October 2010 - Fujin Systems, a system integrator specialising in advanced Ethernet and next generation security and availability services, has successfully completed the first UK sale of an Arista Networks 7500 switch to the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF).

The Arista 7500 Series modular switch sets a new standard for performance, density, reliability, and power efficiency for data centre switches. With 10 Terabits of fabric capacity and support for 40GbE and 100GbE interfaces in the future, the 7500 provides an ideal platform for building low latency, high performance, data centre networks.

We selected Fujin Systems based on its expertise in delivering previous projects for us in a highly professional manner,” comments Rémy Giraud, Head of Networking and Security for ECMWF “While the price, performance and extensibility offered by the Arista switch provides us with a strong foundation to meet our high performance computing needs for the foreseeable future.

The ECMWF will replace its existing equipment from Force10 and benefit from Arista Networks innovative Extensible Operating System (EOS™), a ground-breaking network operating system with single-image consistency across hardware platforms, and modern core architecture enabling in-service upgrades and application extensibility.

The European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts is an independent intergovernmental organisation supported by 32 States. From its base in Reading, the Centre develops numerical methods for medium-range weather forecasting, distributes medium-range weather forecasts to the national meteorological services of the Member and Co-operating States and carries out scientific and technical research directed at the improvement of these forecasts.

Fujin has implemented the new Arista 7500 in September 2010 and has also been selected by ECMWF to provide a general maintenance and support contract for other parts of its datacenter infrastructure.

We have seen growing interest in high performance Ethernet switching from a number of existing clients who need industry leading 10Gig port density with minimal power and cooling requirements," comments Paul Toms, Sales Director for Fujin Systems, “Although this is the first 7500 series deployed in the UK, we have a number of organisations we are working with around proof of concept for further implementations.
