Joyent and Arista Networks Announce Strategic Partnership to Deliver Programmable Network Management
Las Vegas, NV – April 25, 2010 - Joyent, a pioneer in cloud computing, and Arista Networks, the pioneer of 10 GbE cloud networking, announced today at Interop that the two companies have joined forces to enable the automated management of network infrastructure using Joyent cloud computing infrastructure. The collaboration will provide users of Joyent infrastructure with unprecedented flexibility in network provisioning and improved manageability, scalability and security.
The extensible modular network operating system in Arista's Datacenter Ethernet Switches allows for fully automated, programmatic switch management, while Joyent's software currently provides a set of APIs and easy to use GUI for managing CPU, memory and storage. The joint solution will provide complete network management capabilities, making Joyent the only cloud computing infrastructure provider to allow for centralized, software-based control of all of the resources in the datacenter.
At release, this collaboration will enable Joyent's multi-tenant public cloud solution to provide highly customized security configurations with improved network segmentation, including VLANS and dynamic address reconfiguration. This technology will be available in both public and private cloud solutions built using Joyent technology, providing the widest and richest range of configurations for application development and delivery.
"So far, the range of use cases supported by cloud computing has been limited by a lack of flexibility and low-level control of network configuration," said Ken Duda, vice president of software engineering at Arista. “We're excited to be working with Joyent to develop this solution that will enable a whole new set of customers to begin using cloud computing."
This collaboration is an expansion of technology development using Arista Ethernet Switches within Joyent's multi-tenant public cloud, which has grown to support thousands of companies that, in turn, support millions of end-users and billions of page views each month. This extension of the technology partnership will allow Joyent's users to directly manipulate the network while maintaining high performance and scalability.
"This strategic alliance with Arista further advances Joyent’s vision of a fully programmable datacenter." said Jason Hoffman, CTO of Joyent. "Together, Joyent and Arista will enable our mutual customers to quickly configure a network built on cloud infrastructure to suit their business needs across the full range of private, public, and hybrid cloud models."
