Arista Networks' EOS™ Software Release Policy and Life Cycle guidelines help customers and partners facilitate EOS migration and plan multi-year infrastructure deployment. Arista will support each major EOS software release for up to 36 months from the date of initial posting for a particular train.

To assist customers in selecting the right EOS software release for their environments, Arista follows a standard naming convention for EOS releases. The naming convention identifies if a particular release is integrating new feature functionality, or has reached software maintenance mode.

Each EOS software release is identified with either the letter "F" indicating that the release contains new Functionality or "M", denoting that the release is in the Maintenance phase. An M release only receives incremental fixes and no new functionality is added.

New Feature Phase

  • EOS software releases will be identified with the letter "F" indicating that the release contains new feature/functionality.
  • TAC support available

Maintenance Phase

  • EOS software release will be identified with the letter "M" for maintenance phase An M release only receives incremental fixes and no new functionality is added
  • TAC support available

Support Only Phase

  • Ongoing TAC support
  • Software upgrade required for bug fixes

The following diagram depicts the release phases using an example as well as the Arista TAC support mapping across this timeline.

The following table depicts the Arista EOS release support matrix, including the timelines for each major Arista EOS software train (based on the 36 month lifecycle policy) and includes current state of TAC support for each train.

The Arista software platforms, EOS and CloudVision, are designed to provide flexibility both in the choice of the appropriate feature functionality and in the software consumption model. The base feature set of Arista EOS comes bundled with the Arista products and systems. A set of feature licenses are available to enable additional functionality in advanced feature sets.

The traditional licensing procurement model employs a perpetual term for the right to use the feature, set at a fixed price. For Arista CloudVision and CloudEOS, the functionality is available as a monthly subscription, for an agreed upon term.

The following diagrams depict the two primary groupings for the advanced feature sets:

EOS Licensing Figure 1

Figure 1: EOS, CloudVision and CloudEOS Router Software Licensing summary

  • Routing: General Routing functionality (BGP, Multicast, etc) is available in the E license. The FLX Lite license expands that to include key features like BGP-EVPN for VXLAN. The FLX license is the superset that also includes larger routing tables and MPLS features. See the EOS Platform Licensing tab for specifics.
  • Device Automation & telemetry: This feature grouping includes the device level automation and visibility features in the Z license, including eAPI, State Streaming, LANZ, DANZ, and the Tracers. Integration with 3rd party solutions, such as Splunk, Firewall and Media control service are part of the V2 license
  • Network-wide Automation & Telemetry: CloudVision delivers modern automation and telemetry framework based on cloud principles, by abstracting the physical network and providing a network-wide perspective to automate and leverage real time state streaming for network monitoring.
  • Multi Cloud / Cloud Native: CloudEOS is Arista’s multi cloud and cloud native networking solution enabling a highly secure and reliable networking experience with consistent segmentation, telemetry, provisioning and troubleshooting for the entire enterprise. See the CloudEOS tab for specifics.

Security Advisories

Arista Networks is committed to maintaining the highest standards of security across our product portfolio. Leveraging extensive testing and monitoring of vulnerabilities to isolate and neutralize threats early, Arista's Product Security Incident Response Team (PSIRT) provides global coverage for public reporting of possible security vulnerabilities across the product portfolio.

The PSIRT team monitors industry-wide vulnerability reporting as well as providing a single point of contact for customers and interested third parties to investigate and identify potential threats. The PSIRT team also works to communicate these issues back to the user community in a timely manner.

Arista's approach to vulnerability management and links to best practice guidelines can be found here.

For technical assistance with workarounds and hotfix installations recommended in security advisories, please contact the Arista Support team at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..

Report security vulnerabilities found in Arista products to the PSIRT team via This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. It is recommended to use Arista's PGP key for secure and private communication directly with the PSIRT team.

Arista PSIRT is happy to work with researchers on discovered vulnerabilities in Arista products, the assignment of CVEs, and timelines for responsible disclosure. If a researcher discovers a new vulnerability they will be acknowledged in the advisory related to the vulnerability. Arista PSIRT is interested in receiving reports on issues affecting features in both Arista code as well as Open Source Software used in Arista products. Security issues found in Open Source Software which do not affect Arista products are out of the scope of Arista and should be referred to the appropriate CNA found here.

PSIRT Advisories

The following advisories and referenced materials are provided on an "as is" basis for use at your own risk. Arista Networks reserves the right to change or update the advisories without notice at any time.
